What is a preposition? • A word that shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to some other word in a sentence. • Remember it this way: • Most prepositions are anything a squirrel can do to a tree! • around a tree, below a tree, inside a tree, on a tree, through a tree, underneath a tree, within a tree

  3. A huge list prepositions! • Look on page 69 of your workbook for a list of commonly used prepositions. Copy down the prepositions on your own paper. This does count as a grade. Remember: if it’s in your notes, you can use it on the test!!!

  4. Object of the Preposition • Prepositions begin phrases that generally end with a noun or pronoun called the object of the preposition. • The horses jumped overthe fence. • Fence is the object of the preposition. • They showered the king with gifts. • Gifts is the object of the preposition.

  5. Assignment: • Complete pages 69-70 in your workbook.
