33 Sports in the Asian Games A group of people who are chosen to organize the Games organizing and inviting other countries to take part in the Games The Doha Asian Games Organizing Committee (DAGOC) held a presentation on the 16 April, 2003, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Doha, where they announced the 33 sports that from the events for the Games in 2006. Two new events, chess and triathlon, were announced to be included in the Games. The purpose of the presentation was to inform the attendees of the preparations and plans in motion for hosting the Games and about the work already completed by the subcommittees appointed by the Higher Organizing Committee. The Games take place from December 1st through December 15th 2006. More than 10,000 athletes representing 44 countries take part in the Games, the most important event in Asia. DAGOC also introduced the 34 sporting venues and inform the attendees of the construction and refurbishment work on these venues, including Khalifa National Stadium, which holds a seating capacity of 6,000 and also hosts the opening and closing ceremonies.
