  1. SEMESTER PROJECT (DMT351)SCHOOL OF MICROELECTRONIC SESI 2015/2016 25/03/2015

  2. Objectives The main objectives are to demonstrate student’s skills, to provide further exposure in practical elements and enhance the student’s theoretical knowledge learned in Diploma Programme.

  3. COURSE OUTCOMES • Ability to identify problem/project, managing and implementing the project, writing the report and presentation. • Ability to demonstrate skills acquired in practical work • Ability to think logically, decide the right and effective approach in finding solution. • Ability to work independently and/or in team. • Ability to apply theory into practical.

  4. MINI PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION • The semestral project is implemented throughout Semester Five (5) in which students will register individual project to their respective semestral project coordinator. • School will identify the supervisor as well as the maximum number of project per supervisor. Students will have to arrange appointment with appropriate supervisor. • School will assign a project coordinator (programme chairman) to help with the management of the projects. • The identified supervisors can/may provide the project proposals (not a proposal actually and you have to meet with the supervisor to get their scope of project).The semestral project coordinator will publish the project proposals to students. Students are advised to choose the available projects. Students may also propose other suitable projects. However, these must be agreed upon by the supervisor. Any projects that are not accepted by the supervisor are invalid.

  5. MINI PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION • Supervisor will provide guidance and supervision as well as assistance in getting/equipment procurement needed to conduct the semestral project. • Students are required to present their work and to submit final report at the end of the allocated period. • Final presentation will be conducted as part of the overall assessment. • Two (2) examiners will evaluate each completed project. • Teaching Engineers involvement as supervisor for semestral project is compulsory. Lecturer’s involvements, however, are on voluntary basis, as long as it does not affect their workload on supervising final year projects for undergraduate students.

  8. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

  9. PROJECT REPORTS • The report must be written in English. 1. Project Proposal (W 1) - (Refer to Appendix C for report guideline) • Students are required to submit proposal for their semestral project once the project has been approved by their appointed supervisor. The report should briefly describe the problem statement, objectives of the project, methodology and projection of the cost incurred to run the project. The proposal should not be more than 5 pages and should include Gantt chart of the proposed project. 2. Progress Report (W 8) – (Refer to Appendix D for report guideline) • INTRODUCTION • OBJECTIVE • SCOPE OF STUDY • LITERATURE REVIEW • METHODOLOGY • EXPECTED RESULT • REFERENCE

  10. 3. Final Report (refer to Appendix E for report format) • Students are required to submit a final report according to the prescribe format. The final report should not be less than 30 pages (excluding appendix). After the final presentation, students are required to make corrections as suggested by the examiners. Edited/corrected project report should be submitted in; i. One (1) softcopy in CD format ii. 2 hardcopy stapled-bind with black tape at the side and plastic cover

LOG BOOK (WW15) - (refer to Appendix F for log book format) • Throughout the duration of the semestral project, students are required to present the progress of the project, for at least FIVE (5) timesto their respective supervisor. Students must also present their logbook during the discussions/meeting.

  12. STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITIES • Pre-Semestral Project • Students are to register their individual project to respective semestral project coordinator. • School will identify the supervisor and maximum number of project per supervisor. Students will have to arrange appointment with appropriate supervisor. • Students are advised to choose the available projects. Students may also propose other suitable projects. However, these must be agreed upon by the supervisor. Any projects that are not accepted by the supervisor are invalid. • Students are encouraged to discuss with the respective supervisors regarding the nature of the project before further proceed with the project.

  13. During-Semestral Project • Students must abide by ALL deadlines given for the semestral project. • All the semestral projects MUST be completed within given period - 1 semester. • Students are to record all activities/experiments conducted in their logbook throughout the semester and to be regularly reviewed by supervisor. • Students must submit the project proposal at the first week of academic session. • Students must use all equipments provided with care. • Students are encouraged to continue work on the project during their mid-term break. • Students are required to submit a progress report in week 9 to the supervisors for evaluation. • Students MUST submit 2 draft copies of their individual report and logbook in week 15.

  14. Post – Semestral Project • Students MUST prepare a power-point slide for their presentation that to be scheduled in revision week. • Students MUST submit One (1) softcopy in CD and 2 bound hardcopy of their group report at the end of the semestral project. One hardcopy will be forwarded to the Unit Penyelarasan Program Diploma by Programme Coordinators.
