  1. What WAS the fishing like? People need to be approached professionally and you need credibility with your project. Background research on their interests is necessary – as is a patient approach and a willingness to be flexible.. Using an appropriate digital recorder is essential. Objective 1: Research and report on best practice for Oral History interviews. Objective 2: Record a minimum of 20 interviews focusing on what Doubtless Bay was like in the past. jjIn the 1960’s you could catch fish anywhere anytime. You would see large flocks of birds and acres of fish. Once I caught 25 red moki in an hour and 18 crays in 6 minutes. Table of catch rate data derived from my sea log 1991-92 2004-06 #fishing trips 59 46 #hours fished 55 98 #kahawai caught 128 45 #hook-hours/fish 2.43 8.96 I have observed over 36 years, the numbers and size of kahawai, plankton and bird feeding melees have decreased dramatically since the mid 1980’s. Lew Ritchie, Matapouri. Northwood Brothers @ Far North Photos It was a totally pristine environment in the 1960’s. The stocks were so abundant in shallow water they could just bob for whatever they needed. No need for a mask, it was their (Maori) diving method to touch and feel. Lauri Austin, Awanui. Fred Flowers, Cooper’s Beach. Objective 3: Make interviews accessible to the community. Can you repeat what they used to say about fishing up that beach? Editing & Broadcasting, Presenting to groups, Sharing on the web: www.slideshare.net/madeinnz/community-presentation-show You had to bait your hook up by the scrub otherwise something would jump on it Hosted by: Doubtless Bay Marine Protection Group, Inc.
