  3. World History with Mr. Golden __________________________________________________________ Martin Luther’s “95 Theses” I think I’ll just redecorate this door here…

  4. Objective: ________________________________________________________ FLWBATdescribe the impacts of new religious ideas in Europe at the tail end of the Middle Ages

  5. Agenda: ________________________________________________________ • Review • Spread of new ideas notes • Printing press pros and cons • Martin Luther guided reading • Create your own theses • We’re done!

  6. Staple it in! ________________________________________________________ Ka-chunk! Ka-chunk!

  7. Spread of New Ideas: ________________________________________________________ Paper: • Papermaking spread from China to the Middle East to Europe (CULTURAL DIFFUSION!) • Cheaper and easier to produce, paper quickly replaced the animal skins on which Europeans had written before

  8. Spread of New Ideas: ________________________________________________________ Movable Type: • In the mid-1400s, a German named Johan Gutenberg developed a printing press that used movable type • Movable type is a system of reusable metal letters that can be fit into a frame to spell whatever you want! Here’s how it worked: A worker fitted letters into a frame, spread ink on the letters, and then pressed a sheet of paper against the letters. An entire page was printed at once. The worker could then rearrange the letters in the frame to create a new page!

  9. Spread of New Ideas: ________________________________________________________ Availability of Books: • In 1456, Gutenberg printed the Bible in Latin - it was later translated and printed in other languages • As the Bible became increasingly available, more people learned to read and began to desire education again

  10. Comparing Pages: ________________________________________________________ Before the printing press: After the printing press:

  11. Guided Reading ________________________________________________________ So, what are people going to do with their newfangled edumacations? Martin Luther says… Using the reading titled REFORMERS CALL FOR CHANGE, answer the questions conveniently listed in your notebooks! This is part of your classwork, and classwork earns PRIDE cards, soooo… USE YOUR TIME WISELY!

  12. Now it’s your turn! ________________________________________________________ Time to write your own “Ninety-Five Theses!” Martin Luther says… Take a look at the excerpts from my critique of the Catholic Church and use them as an inspiration to create your own for any modern topic! I’ll show you an example in just a second… This is part of your classwork, and classwork earns PRIDE cards, soooo… USE YOUR TIME WISELY!

  13. Now it’s your turn! ________________________________________________________ Time to write your own “Ninety-Five Theses!” Mr. Golden’s Five Theses (on the AFSIVA uniform policy) 1. It is inappropriate for students alone to be expected to comply with a uniform policy. If there is to be a policy regarding attire in the building, it should apply equally to all – regardless of age or position. And so on, and so on, and so on… USE YOUR TIME WISELY!

  14. We’re done! ________________________________________________________ Make sure to put your notebooks in the crate and your folders in folders, please! Thank you for all your hard work today!
