AMDAR Perspective Aircraft Meteorological DAta Relay (AMDAR) is one of several names for automated aircraft observations. • AMDAR is a WMO sanctioned international program of nations with air carriers that provide automated weather observations • AMDAR is being integrated into the World Weather Watch Global Observing System • Operational AMDAR programs include: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United States, South Africa and Saudi Arabia • Some countries have formed regional AMDAR programs: • E-AMDAR – 23 member nations access data from Air France, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa and Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) • Asian AMDAR Group – Japan, China, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong China Supporting the Nation’s commerce with information for safe, efficient, and environmentally sound transportation.

AMDAR Perspective • Countries with developing or planned AMDAR programs: • In South America, Chile, Argentina, Brazil • United Arab Emirates and other middle eastern countries including Oman, Egypt and Iran • ASECNA group of 15 African countries plus Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia • Central and Eastern European nations led by Austria, Slovenia, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia and the Czech Republic • Countries expressing an interest in starting an AMDAR program include: the Russian Federation, Morocco, India, Pakistan, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Mauritius, Vietnam, Indonesia and the island nations of the South West Pacific Supporting the Nation’s commerce with information for safe, efficient, and environmentally sound transportation.
