Our business • Ensuring doctors and dentists are fit to move to the next stage of training/practice and have a license to practise. • Overseeing workplace learning and assessment • ARCPs – in excess of 7,500 • Recommendation for revalidation – 6,000+ • Delivering the taught aspect of the curriculum • Managing underperformance • Working with three medical schools, including fitness to practise committees

Our business • Ensuring that the educational faculty are fit for purpose. • Establishing the certificated programme • Meeting the GMC standards for trainers • Development and succession planning of educational leaders • Annual conferences – leadership and education in addition to conferences for each educational group

Our business Ensuring that the learning environments are fit for purpose and meet the GMC standards. • 36 Trusts and 2 Dental Hospitals and Isle of Man • 529 Medical practices • 1,500 Dental practices • Establishing and developing the visiting process, using a proportionate methodology • 26 Trusts visited last year • Single monitoring visit and reporting process

  5. Our business Management of the annual GMC trainee survey: • National survey to monitor the quality of medical education and training in the UK. • Results available on the GMC website. • HEE NW Trainee response rate: 2015: 98.6% 2016: 100%

Our business • Managing doctors and dentists in training who are in difficulties • 2-4% at any one time (about 200) • Ensuring all trainees with GMC conditions are compliant and have a workplace reporter • Responding to GMC enquiries about trainees and all doctors who declare an educational role • Transferring information to the next Responsible Officer • Taking responsibility for legal challenge.

  7. Our business • Ensuring that our employers and host sites are fit for purpose • Managing and monitoring contracts • Establishing and advising on compliance with WTR • Advising on improving working lives

  8. Our business Establishing and managing revalidation processes. • Managing the business of the Designated Body • 5,898 trainees on the HEE NW Connect List. • 2,000 recommendations for revalidation made each year • Response to the GMC on all trainees and trainers where a case is opened

In addition • Medical and dental workforce planning • Shifting from dentists to dentistry and a fit for purpose workforce • Developing the dental foundation curriculum and assessment • Implementing Broadening Foundation Training – every trainee in the North West spends four months in GP • Establishing physician associates training • Meeting the 10 point plan to recruit more GPs • Establishing the first integrated foundation programme • Establishing and leading Broad Based Training
