  1. How to be a happy data back up, impress your users and keep learning. Erin Alcock Memorial University of Newfoundland

  2. What it is • Why you would use it • Why I use it • Then we’re going to try it

  3. Users can readily identify, select and download variables from a data file that can then be custom-tabulated using statistical software • SPSS • SAS • Stata

  4. So why do I use it?? (and IDLS before) • It’s taken me this long to remember the DLI password • It answered most of the questions I was getting • It helped me gain familiarity with the commonly asked for surveys and the variables contained • Self service makes graduate students and faculty members happy

  5. Don’t worry!!! There will be no exposure to statistical software during this session

  6. Scenario One A physical education student wanders into the library. He’s been wondering about what is going on with all of these runners that are seemingly everywhere and thinking that he’d like to do an assignment on this for his research methods class. He needs raw data to analyze. “I keep seeing all these old ladies running” he says. Let’s see what we can find in Equinox…

  7. Scenario Two A business student wonders, “What’s up with travel agents? Doesn’t everyone make their own travel arrangements these days??” How might Equinox help to answer this question?

  8. Scenario Three A community member approaches the desk, “They said on the radio that the average Canadian doesn’t drink as much beer as they used to. Is that true??”

  9. Print him the article from The Daily… he’s not an authorized Equinox user!
