  1. Killing Envy with the Gospel • The Root of Envy • The Fruit of Envy • The Cure for Envy • Envy is a feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another’s advantages, success, possessions, etc.

  2. Root of Envy (the heart) Mark 7:21–22 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.

  3. Fruit of Envy • Envy kills love – 1 Cor. 13:4 • Envy brings strife – Titus 3:3 • Envy leads to bitterness – Ps 73 • Envy rots the bones – Pr. 14:30 • Envy is a precursor to hell.

  4. Am I Envious? • Do you rejoice when others prosper? • Do you dislike those who prosper? • Do you rejoice when the others fall? • Do you ask God “why not me?” • Do you look for faults in those who prosper?

  6. The Cure for Envy • (Gospel Hope) • Love kills envy – 1 Corinthians 13:4. • Love comes from God – 1 John 4:10-11. • Love is realized at the Cross – John 17.

  7. Gospel Faith – Our Response • Put Envy to Death – Repent/Forsake • Confess to God – 1 John 1:9 • Confess to Others – James 5:16 • Put on Love – Colossians 3:12-17 • Serve (love) those you envy. • Pray (love) for those you envy. • Cultivate a thankful heart.
