  1. Helpful Advice on Residential Treatment Centers One of the best things about residential treatment centers, apart from the fact that they change people's lives for good, is that you can find out a lot about them. That's important. You want to make sure you are doing the very best for the member of your family who is in need. There are two main ways to learn all about most residential treatment centers. The first is to read their brochure and/or web site and the second is to ask. And you can ask the center itself or some of its former residents and their families. There are other sources of information too including your local state health department and even your family doctor. Now asking is important. You need to discover if day patient treatment is a better option than residential treatment. The cost is usually much higher for residential care but it may not be the best way to treat the person in trouble. And remember that if a residential treatment center doesn't provide testimonials from former residents, , residential treatment centersand their families, then perhaps that's one center you will not consider. Likewise, if a center does not provide free advice on what they offer and how, then that too could well be a center to avoid. Fortunately most residential treatment centers are thoroughly professional and only too willing to assist potential residents and their families. Obviously if a center is doing well and produces profound change in their clients, people will want to talk about it. The former residents will be delighted, their families thrilled and the staff at the center will be as proud as punch. In looking for an appropriate treatment center, look for those with glowing testimonials and family members who are willing to discuss their situation with others.

  3. What You Can Expect at a Youth Residential Treatment Center If your son or daughter is about to go away to live in a residential treatment center, there are a number of things you should know. And 'you' in this case is both the teen and the parents. Fear of the unknown is a real feeling and can often be removed by a simple explanation. No-one should feel anxious about time spent in a treatment center so please read and digest this information. Take it on board and discuss it with your child so everyone has a clear idea of what to expect. The first thing to know is that there is a low staff/resident ratio and that most groups are about 8 in number. So every teen will have ready access to a therapist or member of staff. And once you arrive on site, each teen will be welcomed and given a tour of the facility. Getting on with fellow residents is an important part of the program and residents are placed with other teens who are most like them and with the same type of needs and issues. Do not think you will be placed with inappropriate residents. Where you go as far as group membership is concerned depends on some simple testing procedures which occur soon after arrival. The aim of the facility is to obviously help you with your problems but to also help you grow socially and work well within a group. The parents are certainly involved at the beginning, residential treatment centers for depressionand work with staff to set a series of goals for each residency. These goals have to be realistic and the parents will know what their child is capable of. The come the rules. These tend to be strict at first but are reduced in most cases once the program is commenced. It is both a reward and an incentive for each teen. They obey the rules are able to stay up late or do things that were restricted at first. It's all part of the growth of the individual helping them to gain confidence and self-esteem. One important aspect is the end date for your stay at the facility. If a resident is told they will be going home on a specific date, there is a strong temptation to slacken off and coast until their time is up. Most centers do not announce an end day and urge residents to work hard at all times. The end date can be moved by the staff depending on the success and commitment shown by each resident.

  5. What About Therapeutic Boarding Schools? In a conventional boarding school program, students are expected to strictly adhere to the set school rules such that any deviations from these policies may lead to a student facing disciplinary actions. Although these institutions promote a sense of personal responsibility within the students, they are not fully equipped to deal with the troubled students. Most of the troubled students who are usually at their teens struggle with social issues such as lack of motivation, low self-esteem, poor self image and emotional breakdown. Therapeutic Boarding Schools on the other hand incorporate the traditional academic programs with intense therapeutic interventions to ensure that the troubled students are fully catered for. Thus these schools offer physical, social, emotional and spiritual guidance to these students apart from educational enrichment. The idea behind the establishment of these schools is to instill permanent and positive behavior change and self-perception. Therapeutic Boarding School programs involve both individual and group therapies. The particular individuals are trained on how to be self-comfortable i.e. accepting and appreciating themselves as they are. The group therapies are supposed to make the students share on the various issues they are going through, therapeutic boarding schoolsand thus come up with favorable solutions to these issues. This is especially meant to promote communication skills within the students and making them more open to the issues they face in life. An important aspect in the Therapeutic Boarding Schools' program is helping the troubled student develop coping mechanisms. Most of the unpleasant reactions seen in troubled teens such as anger, anxiety, unruliness and violence are as a result of their inability to cope with life's problems. The program therefore instills skills within the students that will help them take responsible actions whenever faced with a problem. A Therapeutic program cannot be complete without a lesson on life skills. These include decision making skills, problem solving and interpersonal skills. The students learn how to be independent when making decisions which makes them more willing to take responsibility for consequences arising as a result of their decisions. Therapists also aim at ensuring that the students are able to develop positive goals for their lives. For parents with troubled students, taking them to a Therapeutic Boarding School is not the end to the problem. These patients should take the time to understand what their kids are going through and thus provide a favorable environment where positive behavior is molded even after the therapy sessions are over.
