  1. Julington Creek NEWSLETTER News about the collective work at the Julington Creek church of Christ and updates on individuals and families. Volume 2 Issue 25 July 14, 2013 HOW TO HELP PEOPLE CHANGE • 1 Timothy 3:16-17 - All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. • There is no better manual on living than the Bible. As is often noted, B-I-B-L-E stands for Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth. If any person wants to find eternal life and learn how to be a better person he should study the Bible. If we want to help others discover these things, we must direct them to the Bible. • God’s word helps us to make needed changes in our lives. It also gives us the knowledge to help others make life changes. From the above passage, Notice 4 things we can do to help others: • Teaching. In 1 Cor. 9:19, Paul declared himself a servant to others that he might “win over as many as possible” (REB). Paul never stopped teaching God’s word to others. Like Peter and John before him, his attitude was, “we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20). Once a person obeys the gospel and becomes a Christian, he should know immediately that he has a burden from God to help others see the truth. • Reproof / Convict. When the people on Pentecost heard that they had killed the Messiah, they were “cut to the heart” (Acts 2:37). They were convicted by the words of Peter and sought to change their lives. When Nathan told king David he had sinned against God, David cried out, “I have sinned against the Lord” (2 Sam. 12:1-13). He was convicted of wrong doing and was ready for the next step – correction. • Correction. When the Corinthians repented, acknowledged their sin and endeavored to correct a bad situation, Paul said they had “vindicated” themselves (2 Cor. 7:9-11). Teaching and conviction must be followed by a change of life. • Training. Once correction has been made we must encourage others to keep walking in truth. People must be persistently trained as parents train their children through the years. This training in the word will result in stable and mature Christians whose faith will not fold when the chips are down. Christian – thank God that He uses us to help others find Christ! dlf
