  1. LAYOUT OF ENGINEERING REPORT An Academic presentationby Dr. Nancy Agens, Head, Technical Operations,TutorsIndia Group www.tutorsindia.com Email:info@tutorsindia.com

  2. Today'sDiscussion OUTLINE Introduction Basic ReportStructure

  3. Introduction The technical report is one of the key ways of correspondence inengineering. The paper is a detailed workingdocumentproduced by engineers for clients, supervisors, and other engineers on the jobsite. This implies that each report has an objective, which goes beyond merely presenting facts. Some popular aimsare: To update the readers about something To motivate the consumers to take action To remind the listeners aboutsomething

  4. Basic ReportStructure The parts that you want to add in a report will rely on the topic and the specificissue. First, what does the listener need toknow? Which is the most rational method of forming the projectstory? In addition, a study includes the followingelements. Titlepage Abstract Table ofcontents Introduction Body of thereport Conclusions and recommendations References andappendices

  5. 1. Titlepage This pageprovides: Reporttitle The names of the authors and studentIDs Name and code of the unit, the university and department Date ofsubmission. The report title should point out exactly what the report isabout. The audience should know the basic topic and the particular element of thesubject discussed in thereport.

  6. 2.Abstract The Summary is generally composed at theend. It gives a concise outline of the substance of the report. The Summary is not a prologue to thepoint. TheSummary States the subject of thereport. Briefly traces your way to deal with thejob. Focuses on the project outcomes or result, the key parts of your structure. States the noteworthiness or ramifications of theoutcomes.

  7. 3. Table ofContents The Table of Contents lays out the summary divisions and subsections and their accompanying paragraphnumbers. The conceptual interaction between the divisions and subsections should be clearly seenthere. A reader requesting certain details should be able to find the right segment quickly from the contentlist. Decimal points are used to number the sections and they appear in the left while page numbers appear on the rightside.

  8. 4.Introduction The introduction informs the theme of thereport. It places the project within its wider framework, and offers the backgroundmaterial that the reader wants toknow. Introductiondoes: present the research subject in detail. describe the project's issue andinspiration. specify the project'sgoals. suggest the study'sintent. summarize the process frameworkbriefly.

  9. 5. Body of theReport The bodyof the report is the place you present your ownwork. The body of thereport: Presents the data from your examination, both genuine world and hypothetical, or yourplan Organizes data sensibly under suitableheadings Conveys data in the best path for correspondence by methodsfor: Figures andtables Bulleted or numberedrecords Formatting to separate enormous pieces ofcontent Provide usefulheadings

  10. 5.1. Figures andTables Figuresinclude: Diagrams Graphs Sketches Photographs Maps Tables represent data in columns. All figures and tables should labeled andnumbered.

  11. 5.2. Equations andFormulae Equations should have numbering as per they appear in the document, with numbers on the right side insideparentheses. These numbers will then be used for identification in the rest of thereport. Equations are normally centered, with successive equations on distinct lines and with vertical alignment of the equal sign(=). y = mx + b(1) x = l(h + f)(2)

  12. 6. Conclusions and Recommendations The Conclusions and Recommendations might be joined or, in long reports, introducedin isolatedsegments. The Conclusions summarize the key purposes of your conversation or the critical results of yourexamination. As its capacity is to adjust the narrative of your venture, itshould: Be written to relate legitimately to the points of the task as expressed in the Introduction. Indicate the degree to which the points have beenaccomplished. Summaries the key discoveries, results or data in your report. Highlight the importance or helpfulness of yourwork.

  13. 7.References All facts, processes, documents, diagrams and maps, whether acquired or based on other people's research, must be accepted using one of the acknowledged engineering referencingtypes. You can go for Engineering & Computer Science Coursework Writing Service/Help for Citing and Referencingguidance.

  14. 7.1Appendices The appendix includes informationthat is too extensive to be used in the main document, such as lengthy logical derivations, precise scientific sketches or raw datatables. Appendix conventions are asfollows: Each appendix must be numbered with a number (or letter) andtitle. Appendix numbers and titles must be mentioned on the information page underthe heading Appendices orAppendix. Each appendix must be referred to by number at the correct point in thedocument.
