  2. What is a Virus A Virus is any program that can replicate itself to cause a host computer to do weird things.

  3. How do you get a virus? • A virus is spread by the forms of being sent the said virus from an infected host to a non infected host. You can also get a virus from a infected removable disk

  4. Different types of viruses • There are a few different types of viruses from some Virus, Trojan horse, Worm, and Malware • Trojan horse- a malicious, security-breaking program that is disguised as something benign • Worm- a worm is a virus that does no direct damage to the computer it's infected by getting past computers and clogging up the network very quickly • Malware- any program or file that is harmful to a computer user

  5. Virus Prevention • One of the first steps of prevention is to install and update anti-virus software. Second is to buy a physical firewall, software firewalls do not work and will end up obstructing work from being done more than it will help it. Third, a manual way to see if you have a virus, (if you are using a windows machine) is to look in the win.ini file. Click Start, Run, type msconfig then hit enter. If you see any abnormal startup programs look it up and deselect.

  6. Browsers Anyone? • Internet Explorer is a magnet for Viruses, Spyware, Worms, and Trojans not to mention automated hacking attacks. Even with updates IE will never be secure enough to fight off attacks even to a minimal extent. One of the main problems facing IE Explorer is its filtering ability along with its structure to constantly back up the computers cache and Internet Cookies.

  7. Browsers Extended • It is suggested that one uses an alternate Internet Browser especially if one is using any type of Windows platform. Some new Browsers that are more secure than Internet Explorer are: Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla ThunderBird Netscape, and Opera. These are just a few major names, of course one of the severe ways to reduce threat from malware and other types of harmful attacks is to switch to Linux.

  8. The Infamous JPEG • A new type of attack has just recently become a problem, it is called a JPEG attack. This attack is automated and can be coded by anyone willing to destroy a computer. Malicous coders have found a way to manipulate JPEG images and have them execute malicious code in Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Office XP, Office 2003, Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1, Project, Visio, Picture It and Digital Image Pro. Recent patches have been released, but this problem shows how advanced malicious coders can exploit and adapt.
