Upgrade Path • Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 x32 is a migration rather than a upgrade. • If you plan to replace OS with Windows Server 2012: • Check hardware for Windows Server 2012 support • Check hardware for compatibility (Ram, Storage, etc.) • Check software for Windows Server 2012 support. www.netcomlearning.com

Upgrading Active Directory • Windows Server 2012 requires a Windows Server 2003 forest functional level • Domain controllers which run Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 can be upgraded. Upgrading Windows Servers running the Hyper-V Role • Upgrade path from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2012 • Power off all virtual machines • Remove any snapshots associated with the virtual machines • If you are using differencing disk, be sure to migrate the base VHD. www.netcomlearning.com

Upgrading Hyper-V Clusters on Server 2008 • There is no upgrade path from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2012 when using clustering • Build a Windows Server 2012 cluster • Power off virtual machines, remove any snapshots. • Export the virtual machines from the Windows Server 2008 box.
