THE DAILY NEWS THE WORLD’S FAVOURITE NEWSPAPER www.dailynews.com - Since 1879 Technology Increases Student Performance In Public Schools!!! A student’s performance is at its highest when they are in a hybrid style learning environment according to the U.S. Department of Education meta-analysis research study. A true hybrid environment is 50% online and 50% face-to-face instruction.
THE PROBLEM Using technology effectively in a public school environment to create a productive, hybrid learning environment to achieve student success.
Those Against Using Technology “…in spite of so much talk about technology, and so much money spent buying it, little has changed in student achievement.” (Bowman) “Perhaps attendance records should include a new category: present but otherwise engaged.” (Freedman) COMPUTERS WILL REPLACE TEACHERS! “…don't see the point in computerizing classrooms while more mundane fixes have to wait, such as repairing roofs, replacing fire alarms or upgrading buildings for earthquake safety or disabled access.” (Alpert)
A National Bestseller Book! ...but the same has been said about anyone in their late 40s…and the same was said about young adults back in the 1960s…which has to make a person wonder???
Those For Using Technology “Technology integration isn't about replacing what we do. It is about doing what we do better.” (Bowman) “Teens gravitate to the computers…making them more likely to tackle tougher work.” (Alpert) “…appropriate use of technology can provide learning opportunities not otherwise possible…prepare students for the 21st century.” (Bowman) “…technology is for: questioning, exploration, discovery, analysis, understanding, application, and communication.” (Bowman) “You're bringing the world into the classroom” (Alpert)
Teachers Need to Be Onboard with the Technology SUPPORT REQUIRED
Technology Does NOT Always Mean a Student Playing an Interactive Game!!! Virtual Field Trips Exploration and Discovery Presentations
REMEMBER!!! Students need to be shown how technology can be used for things besides social networking! Otherwise, all they will know about technology is that it is for social networking and nothing more!
Four Recommendations to Enhance Student Learning and Achievement (Bowman)
