  1. Dividing a 3 Digit Number by a 2 Digit Number For Example: 895 ÷ 15 Using Long Division For more maths help visit: www.y6maths.blogspot.com

  2. First put the large number inside the division bar and the smaller number outside For Example: 895 ÷ 15 1 5 8 9 5 For more maths help visit: www.y6maths.blogspot.com

  3. Now try to divide the number in the hundreds and tens column (89) by 15: In this case, the closest multiple of 15 is: 5 x 15 = 75 The 5 is placed in the tens column directly above the 9 5 15 8 9 5 The 75 from 5 x15 = 75 goes directly below the 89 -7 5 The number from the units column is then dropped down next to the 14 1 4 5 The remainder, the difference between 89 & 75, goes under the 75 For more maths help visit: www.y6maths.blogspot.com

  4. Now try to divide this new number (145) by 15: In this case, the closest multiple of 15 is:9 x 5 = 135 The 9 is placed in the units column directly above the 5 5 9 15 8 9 5 -7 5 1 4 5 The 135 from 9 x15 = 135 goes directly below the 145 -1 3 5 The remainder, the difference between 145 & 135, goes under the 135 1 0 In this question the remainder is 10, so 895 ÷ 15 = 59 r 10 For more maths help visit: www.y6maths.blogspot.com
