Traditional Economic System • A traditional economic system is a system in which a country’s traditions dictate what is produced, how it is produced, and who it is produced for. • Examples: • India • Villages in Africa and the Middle East that are impoverished
Command Economic System • A Command Economic System is a system in which the government dictates what is produced, how it is produced, and who it is produced for. • Examples: • Iran • China
Market Economic System • A Market Economic System is a system where the people dictate what is produced, how it is produced, and who it is produced for. • Examples: • Turkey
Mixed Economic System: • A Mixed Economic System is a combination between a Command and a Market System. • The government establishes some rules, but the people have most of the power in deciding the goods produced. • Examples: • USA • Japan • South Africa • Iraq
Autocracy and Dictatorship • An Autocracy is a government that is controlled mainly by only one person. That person usually is elected, but refuses to give up power after his/her term. • Examples: • Democratic Republic of the Congo • Liberia • A Dictatorship is a government that is controlled by one person. This person usually came to power through force, and use the military to rule through force. • Examples: • Cuba • Iraq under Sadam Hussein
Oligarchy and Monarchy • An Oligarchy is a government that is ruled primarily by a few people. These people may be voted into office, or they may rule by force. • Examples: • Indonesia • China • A Monarchy is a government that is ruled primarily by a king and/or queen. These people inherit the title through their family. • Examples: • Egypt • Jordan • Saudi Arabia • Japan
Theocracy and Democracy • A Theocracy is a government in which the leader of the government is also the leader of the official religion. They often use religious law as official law. • Examples: • Iran • A Democracy is a government in which the leaders are freely elected by the citizens. There is usually a limit on the power the government has. • Examples: • USA • South Africa • Iraq
Parliamentaryvs. Presidential Republic • In a Parliamentary Republic, the leader of the country is a Prime Minister. He is a member of the legislative branch of govt. • Examples: • Turkey • Kenya • In a Presidential Republic, the leader of the country is a President. He/she is a member of the executive branch of govt. • Examples: • USA • Japan
