88. The Amazing Desert By Clay Rathman, Jordan Wakefield, Esme Opp, and Sydnie Stilley
Animals and Biodiversity •Most animals hide in places out site •Few animals are very fast •Some animals are muscular and powerful •Some snakes are very poisonous •Some birds are well covered in black feathers •Some animals have salt glands or sweat glands
Plants and Biodiversity •Animals store water in flesh •Few plants have over 1400 of their species •Some plants have developed taproots •Plants must grow flowers and seed before harsh conditions •Deserts have a short life cycle of plants •Some plants are able to escape a drought
Climate of Desert •Gets less than 10 inches a year •Only some of the Deserts are dry •In summer it gets up to 85-100 Fahrenheit and 29-39 Celsius •It gets cold in the winter •It doesn’t rain often •Gets very dry
Location of Biome •Most Continents have Deserts •Most of the deserts are in Africa •Few deserts are in North America •Deserts cover most of Australia •Desert in the eastern part of the Earth
Theatened/Endangered/ Extinct •Duck, Sidewinder, and the Gila Monster are Threatened •Scorpion, Camel, Cheetah, Cobra, Arabian Oryx are endangered •Desert mouse is extinct
Animals and Adaptations •Most animal stay in the shade •Some burrow in the ground •Few animals hunt at night •Some store fat in humps or tails •Most get water from insects, bulbs, and seeds •Some remain inactive during the day •Some animals develop salt glands
Grasslands By Aric, Brock,Devin,Emelia
Animals • Most animals eat grass in the grasslands • Most animals stay year-round • Most animals are grazers • Invertebrates to large mammals • Some animals are browsers • Some animals migrate • Most animals have adaptations
Grass is common • Few trees except along streams • Tall and short grasslands • There are thousands of grasses • Many wildflowers • Many grasses will not die if stepped on • Wide range of plant life Plants
Climate •10 -30 inches of rain •Some snow •There are droughts •In savanna mostly hot all day •Very windy •partly-dry biome • few Tornadoes
Location • All around the world • Often found between deserts & rainforests • north and south American grasslands • 1-5th of the earths surface is grasslands • About 800 million people in grasslands • Everywhere except Antarctica
Threatened/Endangered/Extinct • Most animals are endangered • Few animals are extinct • Few animals are threatened • Here are some threatened animals mountain lions, McCowns,Longspur • Here are some endangered animals bison, cheetahs, sand hill crane, red wolf, lion, zebras, elephants • Here some extinct animals auruba sheep, great plains wolf

Plants • Trees • Brazil Nut Tree • Kapok Tree • Fig Tree • Cecropia Tree • Trees may grow as high as 200 feet 2. • Overlapping leaves keep the forest floor from getting hot • Ferns • Vines • Bushes
Animals • Most animals hunt for their food • A lot of animals eat fruits • Most mammals hunt at night • Many different kinds of birds • Some monkeys are primates

This biome is important because it has very many animals and plants that are regional to this world.
The Amazing Taiga Calen Middendorf Sydney Mickells Dylan Baker Tyson Lam
Animals •Few animals live in the Taiga because of climate •Some birds live in Taiga •Most mammals live in the Taiga •Some of the animals migrate to warm places •Most animals have fur to blend in with surroundings •Many swans, otters, and weasels live in the taiga
Climate •Cold winters, cool summers •Moisture moderate varies throughout year •Very cold Climate in winters •Gets 13 inches of rain In a year •Cold climate •Winters long and cold •Summers short and cool
Plants • Not much plant life • Common plant is conifer tree • Rarely found club moss • Some trees don’t drop there leaves • Ground freezes so plants are unable to get water • Trees grow close together • Trees in the Taiga need to adapt to the climate
Threatened\Endangered\Extict •The wooly mammoths are extinct •Some animals in the Taiga are poached and killed •Anancus is a extinct dinosaur •The brown bear is threatened by being poached •Stellers sea lion is threatened because of fisher men •Corythosaurs is extinct
Location • Found in the northern hemisphere near polar region • In Russia,North America,Europe, and Asia • Mostly found in Canada • Most of the taiga grows in the Artic circle • Taiga is far up north • Taiga is mostly unpopulated
The Taiga is near the Tundra where we will visit next, in our biome adventure.
