  2. RELIGIOUS ART ARCHITECTURE • Temples • Stupas : is a mound-like or semi-hemispherical structure containing Buddhist relics, typically the ashes of Buddhist monks, used by Buddhists as a place of meditation. • Most famous Buddhist temple carved out of mountainsides is at Ajanta.

  3. PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURE -Paintings: Drew on Hinduism and Buddhism beliefs. -Sculpture: Buddhist temples - intricately carved columns and statues of kings and the Buddha. Hindu temples – statues of their gods.

  4. SANSKIRT LITERATURE Religious Epics: -Mahabharata – story about struggle between two families for control of kingdom. -Ramayana – story of Prince Rama (the god Vishnu in human form) -Other Literary Works: Panchatantra – stories intended to teach lessons.

  5. Standards/Objectives& Review • TSW identify the major Indian achievements in art, literature, math, medicine, and astronomy. • TSW demonstrate a Bollywood dance, an Indian art style.

Modern Math not possible without zero . • Created decimal system Medicine: -Inoculation- injecting a person with a small dose of a virus to help him or her build up defenses to a disease. ex. flu shot. - Like Mesopotamia doctors recorded medical knowledge. - Plastic surgery, C-section, repaired broken bones, 500 healing plants identified, 1000 diseases classified

  9. SCIENCE Astronomy: the study of stars and planets -solar calendar, there are seven planets, the earth is round, knew earth was a sphere, sun was a star.
