2. Cave Paintings The first and largest set of cave paintings was discovered in Lasceaux, France.
The paintings are estimated to be from 10,000-15,000 B.C.
3. Lasceuax Caves These caves were discovered in France by four teenage boys.
The images depicted are mostly of animals, and it is thought that they used these pictures to gain some kind of control over the hunt.
4. Lasceaux cont’d Images such as bulls, stags, and horses can be clearly seen.
Many of the pictures also have hacthet marks in them, which leads some to believe that the artists were trying to communicate and/or influence the outcome of the hunt through their paintings.
5. How did they paint? It is believed that the cave painting artists made paints from the melted fat of the animals they killed.
They then added colors to the melted fat by use of natural ingredients, such a berries, leaves, etc.
6. Even though they’re old… The cave paintings are one of the oldest known works of art in the world, and are clearly one of the first works of art.
But they’re still pretty good.
