ADE IT Modernization Effort Update Presented to: ASCUS February 28th, 2014 Presented by Mark T. Masterson
Starting with the end in mind • This is an Education Transformation not an IT initiative • Technology can enable the transformation but only with a consolidated strategic view by education decision makers Enable parents, teachers, administrators and policy makers to make smart, effective and efficient decisions affecting student outcomes.
Opt-In Student Information System (SIS) Provides an alternative for LEAs looking to reduce per student costs and eliminate the burden of contract negotiation and management
Opt-In SIS • Designed by Arizona SIS users for Arizona SIS users • Cost-effective contract • Implementation and management support provided by ADE • Districts choose if and when it is a good business decision for your district • Potential to save on licensing costs and staff time used to run and maintain own IT hardware and software systems • Creates competitive market place for all LEAs
Evaluation stage • Addresses local education agencies’ needs for a comprehensive, cost-effective student information management solutions • LEAs participating in the pilot SIS will be invited to be key collaborators to shape implementation • Development of training models • Shaping software for LEA needs • Identifying best practices for implementation
Future system overview • Student data is available for submission upon entry of a valid transactions in SIS • LEA should submit whatever data it can display for reporting
The Ed-Fi solution • Converts data to one language and allows for consistent and comparable data reporting • This is a data push • ADE is not ‘pulling’ data directly from your SIS • Nearly real time transactions • System-to-system notification • Specifications for frequency of data push still being determined • Transaction errors notifications • Still under development • Will work with current SAIS users to help determine process
What is ? • AzEDS serves as the data standard for the Arizona Learning and Accountability System(AELAS) • Common language and processes that streamline communication • National data standards (CEDS) to simplify data processes • Reduces the burden of data requests made to LEAs
Why do we need ? • We need AzEDS in order to make Arizona’s education system work better for everyone involved • Standardizes and streamlines the collection of data • Minimizes administration and puts educators back in the business of educating
Benefits of • Allows your LEA to upload required student-level data to ADE in a reliable, consistent format • This single change will eliminate the millions of SAIS data errors every year • Reduces time spent on ADE data requests and enables near real-time student data to populate the new Arizona Dashboards (AZ Dash)
