  2. Christian HeritageEndowment FundCHEF The Christen Heritage Endowment Fund (CHEF) was established by the NJ District LCMS for the purpose of creating and overseeing financial programs to undergird ministries of the District and its member congregations.

  3. Historical activities • Formed in 1983 • Funded with gift of avon stock from the reverend ewold mueller • Chef grants used to subsidize congregations repay lcef loans • 1991 grant program enlarged • Chef supports: new ministries-special ministries-continuing education-technological improvements

  4. FUND DISTRIBUTION From inception to January 31, 2004 the fund has distributed$522,164. This is approximately 160% of the funds original value. An average distribution of $23, 734 per year. Between 1983 and 1991, congregations received subsidized LCEF loan support and other grants totaling $187,295. Since 1991, thirty-two (32) different congregations and organizations have been awarded grants of $334,869.

The preamble of the by-laws defines the role that CHEF is to take on behalf of mission growth within the NJ District: “The Christian Heritage Endowment Fund is an opportunity and a challenge for us all-an opportunity for Pastors and people of the New Jersey District to dream of great advances and accomplishments for Christ and a challenge to our generosity, that our dreams may become reality! May God be glorified in our effort on behalf of mission growth!”
