  4. Lower Class Lower class citizens worked doing jobs they learned from their mother or father such as; farming and blacksmithing. Farming About 30% of England's land was suitable for growing crops. Most farmers kept their crops and livestock for their own food. The common farm animals were pigs, chickens, sheep and cows. Horses were scarce and only owned by large land owners. Oxen were also a common farm animal that lived on poorer food and could be eaten. Blacksmithing Blacksmiths were in charge of making and repairing tools and implements from iron and steel. Blacksmith also sometimes had to pull teeth because there were no dentists in the village. http://fortnerministries.org/2012/10/06/spiritual-blacksmiths-wanted
