Background • In March 2012, EPA’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) identified a work plan of 83 chemicals for risk evaluation • OPPT plans to use the results of the risk assessment process to focus and direct the activities of the Existing Chemicals Program under the Toxics Substances Control Act (TSCA) • HHCB was part of the 83 work plan chemicals initially selected for risk assessment • In August 2012, OPPT published the peer review plan for the HHCB risk assessment and requested public input • In January 2013, the draft HHCB risk assessments were published in the Federal Register announcing public input for the draft and request for nominations for the peer review panel Office of Pollution Prevention & Toxics
Peer Review process • EPA requests that no individuals or organizations contact in any way its contractor or subcontractors panel members regarding the subject of the peer review, send them written materials regarding the subject of the peer review or make any requests appeared linked to peer review. • Contractor will direct panel members to report any such contacts and will take appropriate action in consultation with EPA to ensure independence and impartiality of peer review process.
