  1. Simple Steps to Obtain Pure Sugar in a Refinery Any refinery which is involved in the process of converting raw sugar into white refined sugar is known as a sugar refinery. Most of the sugar mills generally produce raw sugar which contains large amounts of molasses, this causes it to have a large amount of color due to the impurities as compared to the white sugar which is consumed normally in the households and also used as an essential ingredient in various food item and drinks production process. In general, the refined sugar which is produced contains more than about 99 percent pure sucrose. Steps involved in the process of refining sugar are- • The first step is the process of removal of the coating of molasses as well as residual matter present on the sugar crystals. This is done by mixing the raw sugar with a hot syrup and then removing the molasses in Continuous Centrifugal Machines. • Then the crystals are dissolved in water and filtered to remove the large particles and the suspended solids. This creates a pure, clear and colorless syrup of water and sugar. • After this, the sugar syrup is concentrated by the process of evaporation and tiny crystals called seed are added during this process in order to form larger sugar crystals. Granulated form of sugar is produced by extracting the crystals from the sugar syrup by using a spinning process using machines like centrifuges.

  2. • After this, the sugar crystals are then washed using water, and then they are dried inside a drum and following this they are stored in large silos. • Finally, they are packaged in various packets. But prior to this, the sugar crystals are sieved through wire mesh which has various sized holes in order to get sugar crystals of various shapes.
