  1. Role of the Director?

  2. 1st Role • Correctly apply the rules set by the USFA and FIE and correctly award points to fencers

  3. 2nd Role • The Maintain order on and around the strip: • Coaches, spectators, ad fans are all subject to cards and can be black carded if necessary (getting kicked out of the tournament/venue)

  4. 3rd Role • Maintain tournament organization and keep the tournament progressing while making correct calls • A long tournament is a grueling tournament

  5. The Eyes of a Judge • Epee, blade down • Sabre, eyes are focused on both hands and feet • Foil, back arm to lead arm

  6. The FIE recognized Weapons • Sabre • Foil • Epee

  7. Epee • Very simple, who ever hits first gets the point. • No Right of way required, must be on the piste (strip) to award touches

  8. Foil/Sabre • Foil and Sabre follow guidelines of right-of-way, who has the right to hit.

  9. Right-Of-Way • Simply Put: • The right for a fencer to hit. If one establishes right of way and both fencers comes together and hit valid target (foil and sabre) the fencer with right-of-way is awarded the tuche. • BUT HOW DO YOU ESTABLISH RIGHT-OF-WAY?

Penalties • You get a yellow card for (warning): • Corpe a corpe (making contact with body on body) • Turning your back • Covering valid target with non valid target • Exposing the back of your head • Parrying with your mask. • Second offense is red card (Opponent is awarded a tuche) • Also if you bell punch or step beyond your end line

  19. Black Card • Any unsportsmanlike actions. • Refuse to salute • Not shaking hands • Cursing • Stabbing the referee • Etc
