  2. Foreign Policy Tools – Non Military Diplomacy • Canada uses its diplomatic contacts with other nation-states and/or international organizations (e.g., United Nations, NATO, Commonwealth, etc.) in order to seek the resolution of a global conflict.

  3. International OpinionCanada works to mobilize international opinion in order to increase public awareness of a particular global conflict, and encourage its peaceful resolution.

  4. International LawCanada uses its membership in international organizations such as the United Nations to recommend that those responsible for provoking and/or perpetuating a global conflict be brought to justice (e.g., International Court of Justice, International War Crimes Tribunal).

  5. SanctionsCanada advocates or participates in an international campaign of economic, trade, or other forms of sanctions against a country responsible for provoking or perpetuating a global conflict.

  6. Foreign AidCanada uses the extension or withholding of foreign aid as a tactic to encourage a country or countries involved in a global conflict to resolve it.

  7. Foreign Policy Tools - Military AlliancesCanada participates in a military campaign designed to prevent or deter conflict as part of its membership in an alliance such as NATO.

  8. Military PressureCanada is involved in a multi-national effort to pressure a country or countries involved in a conflict to resolve it before military force is used.

  9. WarCanada dispatches military forces as part of a multi-national campaign to halt aggression or end a global conflict.
