General Facts This is tabby. • Fort Frederica is located on St. Simons Island which is located in the southeast corner of GA. • It contains about 80 acres. • There are about 263,320 visitors each year. • Some buildings were made of tabby, a type of cement made of lime, sand, water, and crushed oyster shells.

  3. Wildlife • The range of wildlife at Ft. Frederica include birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, biting flies, chiggers, mosquitoes, and sand gnats. Biting flies, also called yellow flies, or deerflies.

  4. Plants and Landforms • At Ft. Frederica, there are Seville orange trees and Spanish moss. • The Frederica river flows next to Ft. Frederica. • There are marshes in the surrounding area. Spanish Moss

  5. Battle of Bloody Marsh • The battle of Bloody Marsh began when Spanish forces invaded St. Simons. The Spanish were defeated by British General James Oglethorpe. General James Oglethorpe

  6. Special Fact • During the American revolution, one of Georgia’s delegates to the continental congress was a native of Ft. Frederica (John Houstoun). John Houstoun
