Reaction chemistry

Reaction chemistry. The car was powered by the basic baking soda and vinegar reacion : [CH 3 COOH (aq) +H 2 O(l) ] + NaHCO 3 (s)  2H 2 O(l) + CO 2 (g) +NaCH 3 COO(aq) (120ml vinegar)(5ml acetic acid/100ml vinegar)(1.05g/cm 3 ) = 6.3g/(84g/mol) = 0.105 moles acetic acid

  1. Reaction chemistry The car was powered by the basic baking soda and vinegar reacion: [CH3COOH (aq) +H2O(l) ] + NaHCO3(s) 2H2O(l) + CO2(g) +NaCH3COO(aq) (120ml vinegar)(5ml acetic acid/100ml vinegar)(1.05g/cm3) = 6.3g/(84g/mol) = 0.105 moles acetic acid (7.75g NaHCO3)(1mol/84g) = 0.092 moles baking soda Gas constant: 0.08205(L-ATM/mole-K) Moles CO2 produced: 0.092 moles [(0.092mol CO2)(0.08205 L-ATM/mole-K)(293K)]/(0.7L) = 3.1596 ATM

  5. conclusion • After completing 19 trials, we decided our final measurements would be 7.75 grams of Baking Soda, with our excess reagent being 120mL Vinegar. An initial problem we encountered when determining our values was controlling the variables that affect pressure. The time spent shaking the bottled varied in our earlier trials, causing inaccurate data. After setting the time of reaction to five seconds, we arrived at more precise data. • Based on the performance of the car, the front and back axels of the vehicle could be modified. Due to the rather simplistic design of the car, both axels of the vehicle were bent upward. One solution to this problem is to make a car in which the brace is not connected directly connected to the chassis.
