  2. Vocabulary Self-Awareness • Allows students to highlight their understanding of vocabulary words prior to reading • Allows students to recognize strengths and weaknesses in their own vocabularies • Eliminates a “one size fits all” approach to teaching vocabulary

  3. Rate the Vocabulary Words After getting a list of words, students mark their understanding of the word with the following marks: • Very comfortable = + (plus) • Know it, but are unsure = (check) • New word = - (minus)
