Argo Programme – activities in Japan – Keisuke Mizuno (JAMSTEC) • Argo is a global array of 3,000 free-drifting profiling floats that measure temperature and salinity of the upper 2000 m of the ocean. • Argo allows continuous monitoring of the global upper ocean, with all data being made open to public. • Argo is the sum of national contributions, coordinated by an international Steering Team, and endorsed by the WMO and IOC/UNESCO.

Prediction of climate changes ( e.g. Sea level rising, Shrinking Arctic sea ice cover, Extreme weather events….) safety and efficiency of maritime operations economic strategies (fisheries, agriculture,...) sustained use of ocean and coastal resources Achievement of Argo • Set up an ocean's climate warning system • Easy and open access to data &products Status/Prospect Operation Major Ocean data source for ocean/atmosphere prediction systems Research Better understanding of global changes and improved models for prediction
High School students (Misaki Fisheries High.) deployed 10 floats High school kids are participating in float deployment, and enjoy pursuing their deployed float by internet and learn ocean environment.
