Constructing a Welcome Packet • Welcome Letter from Commander • Welcome Letter from FRGL/FRGT (optional) • Family Programs trifold • About the National Guard Family Program pamphlet • Magnets • Bookmarks • Pens • Contact List for all FRG Personnel involved with company. • Essential Resources • All of these you can get through Family Programs, Military One Source and Army One Source. • See Example

  4. Build that relationship Welcome each soldier and their family to the unit and if they are new to the military to the National Guard as well. This can be the ice breaker that will really make them comfortable with you and the rest of the military experience, you want to make them feel like this is home away from home!

  5. Planning FRG Meetings • You want to try and have an FRG meeting once a quarter. This will give you the ability to plan out your foundation for the unit’s FRG. • The foundation could be a number of things: • Events • Fundraising • Newsletters • Activities • This is also a great opportunity to find out what talents can be brought to the table.

  6. Family Event(s) You will have at least one family event a year! This will be your unit or battalion family day. This is a great opportunity to get all the Soldiers and families together for a day of fun and the ability to branch off and meet other families within the company, Your commander may also want another family day in the year, and in most cases this is a Holiday party. This is something that you can discuss with your commander and decide if this will beneficial for the unit and their families. There are numerous resources to take advantage of when it comes to these events, not only for those that are planning but for those who are attending. • Morale, Welfare & Recreation • Buckley AFB MWR- 720-847-6101 • Fort Carson MWR- 719-526-1867 • The MWR is a great way to get some fun activities for family events.

Constructing A Family Newsletter • Family Page • Event information • Resources • Recipes • Birth Announcements • Welcoming a new family to unit • Kids Page • Youth Events • Kids Birthdays • Fun Activities and Crafts • Color page • Crossword/Word Search • Unit Page • Commanders Corner • 1SG Corner • UC Corner • Soldier that goes about and beyond • Future Drill Dates • Unit Events • This is a great way to really reach out to Soldiers and their families. It is always great to take suggestions on ways to improve your newsletter!

Building Your Account • Do a fundraiser at least once a quarter. • Fundraise with a purpose • What are the funds for? • What do we need for the event? • Remember fundraising is a great way to meet and get to know volunteers and families!!! • Ideas for fundraisers: • Cook Books • Breakfast Burritos • T-shirts • Coffee Mugs • Dunk Tank • Bake Sale • Craft Fair • Spaghetti Dinner • Calendars • Carnival Booths

  9. Building Communication with Command • Communication is key when it comes to working a successful FRG. Having open lines about everything that comes across the bored will make working with your commander very easy. Being in contact via email or by phone will build a great relationship, bring every idea to there attention. Show them your passion for success!!!
