  2. What is Scouting? Scouting offers fun, challenge and everyday adventure to 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK.

  3. Over 200 activities . . . We offer everything from abseiling and archery to drama, street sports and water zorbing. Scouting helps 6-25 year olds grow in confidence and achieve their full potential.

  4. Across five age ranges. . . Beaver Scouts (6-8 years) Cub Scouts (8-10½) Scouts (10½-14 years) Explorer Scouts (14-18 years) Scout Network (18-25 years) Plus . . . Scout Active Support: flexible volunteering for adults

  5. We have a positive impact on . . . Young people – providing opportunities to grow in confidence and develop life skills. Adult volunteers – providing the opportunity to develop skills and training, Society – providing practical benefits to our communities.

  6. Scouting is . . . • For boys and girls • Active – over 200 activities, from archery to zorbing • Community based - in villages, towns and cities across the UK • Inclusive - all kinds of cultures, faiths and backgrounds • Global - 31 million Scouts in over 200 countries across the world

  7. Did you know? • Scouting in the UK has been growing for the last six years • More young people do adventurous activities as Scouts than with any other organisation • Each year Scouts spend over two million nights away from home doing adventurous activities.

  8. Did you know? • You are rarely more than 10 miles from a Scout Meeting Place • 11 of the 12 people to walk on the moon were once Scouts. • John Lennon and Paul McCartney were both Scouts (inspiring a better quality of campfire song)

  9. Why volunteer? • Try new things and gain qualifications, such as First Aid • Use your current skills and gain new ones • You can give as much or as little time as you would like • Be an active member of your community • Meet new people • Build confidence and have fun!

  10. A variety of roles • Opportunities to support young people • Opportunities in behind the scenes roles – from decorating a meeting place to driving the minibus • Opportunities to help lead our Groups, Districts, Counties and Regions as volunteer managers
