  1. August 15, 2011: Self-MotivationPick up your handout.Then, complete the Do Now.

  2. Purchasing Update • Candy/snack: 15 (the equivalent of a vending machine purchase—so two Reeses, a snack pack of Oreos, two Snack Size Hersheys, etc.) • Bathroom Passes: You get four “emergency passes” which will last you the quarter, but can buy more passes, too.

  3. Folder Organization • LEFT SIDE • To-Do List • Budget Sheet • PRONGS • Syllabus • All notes (organized by date) • RIGHT SIDE • Everything else (but nothing for any other class.)  NOTE: WRITE OUT CHECKS DURING THIS TIME.

  4. To-Do List • Parent Contact Sheet • Road Map To Your Life • Get a binder (Friday, August 26) • Think about a person to interview (by Sept.) • Start studying for test (Friday, August 19)

  5. Reading • Follow along as we read. • Complete all activities (you learn more that way) • Be ready to participate/answer questions.

  6. Board = Paper • Self-motivation means figuring out ways to motivate yourself to get the job done. • The most important skill that helps self-motivation is time management: Using your time effectively to finish the most important tasks. • An example of this is using a timer, and only rewarding yourself after you’ve gotten everything done.

  7. Time Quadrant Skit • READ your section, then WRITE your skit. • Each group has to act out one of the four time quadrants. • At least one group member needs to be your time quadrant (a procrastinator, a prioritizer, a yes-man, a slacker). • The other group member should be somebody who has to deal with that person (the procrastinator’s mom, a prioritizer’s friend, etc.)

  8. The Procrastinator: • Don’t expect her to work on a paper or study for a test until the night before. • Her mind won’t kick into gear until there’s an emergency!

  9. TheYes-Man • He has a real hard time saying no to anything or anyone. He tries so hard to please everyone that he usually ends up pleasing no one, including himself.

  10. The Slacker: • Loafs about. He loves anything inexcess, like too much TV, too much sleep, too many video games, or too much time on the Internet.

  11. The Prioritizer • She takes a look at everything she has to do, then prioritizes, making sure her first things get done first and her last things last. Because she has the simple but powerful habit of planning ahead, she’s usually on top of things.

  12. Plan for your week.

  13. Completing Road Map • DUE by the end of the period (will collect up at the end).
