  3. Insert a Picture To insert a picture: • Click the Insert tab. • Click the Picture button in the Illustrations group. • Navigate to the desired folder. • Double-click the desired picture in the Insert Picture dialog box. Picture button

Insert a Picture…continued • In addition to inserting a picture you have saved to your storage medium, you can insert a picture from a web page. • To do this, open the web page, open the document you want to insert the picture into, and then drag the picture from the web page to the document. • If the picture is linked, the link displays in your document rather than the image.

  11. Customize and Format an Image…continued To insert a caption: • Right-click the picture image. • Click Insert Caption. • At the Caption dialog box, with the insertion point positioned in the Caption text box, press the spacebar once, and type the desired text. • Click OK.

Size an Image…continued • To increase or decrease an image’s size with a sizing handle, position the mouse pointer on a handle until the pointer turns into a double-headed arrow and then hold down the left mouse button. • Drag the sizing handle in to decrease or out to increase the size of the image and then release the mouse button. • Use the middle sizing handles at the left or right side of the image to make the image wider or thinner. • Use the middle sizing handles at the top or bottom of the image to make the image taller or shorter. • Use the sizing handles at the corners of the image to change both the width and height at the same time.

Move an Image…continued • Another way to move an image is with the arrow keys on the keyboard. • To move the image in small increments (called nudging), hold down the Ctrl key while pressing an arrow key. • To help precisely position an image, consider turning on gridlines. Do this by clicking the Align button in the Arrange group in the Picture Tools Format tab and then clicking View Gridlines.

Apply Advanced Formatting to Images…continued • In the Vertical section of the dialog box, use the Alignment option to align the image at the top, bottom, center, inside, or outside relative to the page, margin, or line. • In the Options section, you can attach (anchor) the image to a paragraph so that the image and paragraph move together. • Choose the Move object with text option if you want the image to move up or down on the page with the paragraph to which it is anchored.

Create an Organizational Chart with SmartArt…continued • Type text in a chart by selecting the shape and then typing text in the shape, or you can type text in the Type your text here window that displays at the left of the diagram. • Format a SmartArt organizational chart with options and buttons in the SmartArt Tools Design tab and the SmartArt Tools Format tab. • Delete one of the boxes in the organizational chart by clicking the border of the box in the lower right corner to select it and then pressing the Delete key. • Make sure that the selection border that surrounds the box is a solid line and not a dashed line. If a dashed line displays, click the box border again. This should change it to a solid line.
