  3. Objective To learn the methods, procedures, use of tools and materials to safely and properly perform the task of cleaning a revolver.

  5. Health and Hygiene Considerations • Avoid eating, drinking or smoking while cleaning firearms. • Make the cleaning area is properly ventilated. • After cleaning firearms wash hands and face before eating or drinking.

  7. Gun CleaningMaterials Needed • Soft cloth • Cleaning rod • Cleaning rod attachments • Cloth patches • Small brush • Bore cleaner • Gun oil

  8. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 1 Tie an old sock or rag around the rear cylinder opening. This will protect the revolver from damage when the bore brush gets pushed through the barrel.   9. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 2 Match your bore brush to the bore of your barrel and dip you’re the bore brush in the cleaning solvent.

  10. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 3 Feed the bore brush through the barrel of the gun. Allow the bore brush handle will naturally twist in your hand as it follows the rifling inside the barrel. Make sure the bore brush goes all the way through the barrel, exiting at the other end. Then come back through the barrel in the opposite direction.

  11. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 4 Take a cleaning patch and dip it in cleaning solvent then feed it all the way through the barrel of the gun. Repeat with a dry patch until the patch does not show residue from the barrel.

  12. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 5 Using a soft brass brush clean around the muzzle of the gun; then, using a little cleaning solvent, clean the rear cylinder opening

  13. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 6 Using the brush again and some cleaning solvent, brush the cylinders, both outside and on the ends.

  14. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 7 Continuing to clean the extractor rod with the brush and solvent. Clean both the front side then push it out and clean the star and rod between the cylinders.

  15. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 7 Using the bore brush and the cleaning solvent, clean each of the cylinders in the same fashion that you cleaned the barrel. Remember to go all the way through on each side.

  16. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 8 Use the cleaning patches in the same manner as you did with the barrel, taking the first patch and dipping it into the cleaning solvent before feeding it through the individual cylinders. Use two or three clean patches to get out excess residue.

  17. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 9 Using a clean cloth, use a small amount of gun oil and cover all exterior areas of the gun with the exception of the hand grips.

  18. Gun CleaningProcedures Step 10 Wipe off any excess oil with a clean rag then polish up the gun with a silicone gun cloth. Continue to wipe until only a slight amount of oil can be visible on the gun.
