  2. Portable Device OS Portable devices use scaled down operating systems, which are smaller than those found in notebook and desktop computers.

Operating System Choices • There are several manufacturers of portable device operating systems and under normal circumstances, each device is designed to use a specific OS. • Apple devices use the iPhone OS and Blackberry devices use the Blackberry OS. • Microsoft makes the Windows Mobile OS for smartphones and PDA’s and Google manufactures the Android OS.

  4. Apple and Google • The Apple iPhone OS and the Google Android OS are very capable operating systems that being developed for portable devices other than smartphones.

  5. Understanding Be sure to familiarize yourself with different versions of portable operating systems and their manufacturers. Competition between companies and expectations of consumers provides incentive for companies to further develop operating system capabilities.
