  2. BECC – a Strategic Research Area • Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in a Changing Climate • Collaboration between Lund University and University of Gothenburg • 140 researchers, 80 PhD-students • Budget: approx 10 M Euro (2010-2014) • Coordinator: Prof. Henrik G Smith

  3. BECC Research • The BECC research is organized into six clusters reflecting interdisciplinary linkages amongst and collaboration between the researchers. • Conservation of biodiversity under climate and land-use change • Forestry and global change • Agriculture and global change • Governance and Economics of Natural Resources • Integratedecologicalmodelling • Climate, land-use and biogeochemical cycles

  4. BECC between pure science and sustainability science • Predict long-term consequences of eroding biodiversity and vital ecosystem services in a changing climate • Analyse conditions for policy development in a changing world • Use scenarios and back-casting to illustrate consequences of alternative actions • Scientifically evaluate policy options combining adaptation and mitigation strategies to climate change with conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem resilience
