Olympics • Kept young men fit and ready for war • Held in honor of Zeus the lightning god • Most important games • Passed a torch rather than a baton • The winner lit a fire for the gods • Included wrestling, chariot races, javelon throwing, and running • Getting a olive wreath, ribbons, and a palm branch • Girls were not allowed to watch because the games were played by boys that had no clothes on

  3. Games • Team games were not popular • Running is the most popular • Played dice • Played games like mancala and checkers

  4. Festivals • Girls and boys older then three took part in the spring festival • Covered in wild flowers • Greeks welcomed spring and were very happy to see children and flowers because it promised a good future and the gods were happy

  5. Knuckle-bones • A womans game • Played with ankle joint of a goats or cows • You would throw the ankle joint up and catch it on the back of your hand
