  1. PESTICIDE

  2. 3 PESTICIDE NAMES • A) Chemical names • The systematic Name of a Chemical Compound (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) • For example: 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinyloxyacetic acid.. is a chemical name.

  3. B)Common names • A generic name for a chemical compound (see the Weed Science Society of America list of herbicide nomenclature). • Eg: The common name for 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinoxyacetic acid = triclopyr. • the name generally used in discussing pesticidal toxicology and environmental behavior and fate.

  4. C) Product names • The trade name • name on the container. • Triclopyr : Garlon 3A or Garlon 4.

  5. PESTICIDE FORMULATION • Active ingredients + inert ingredients (bahanlengai ) • Active ingredient are the chemicals in pesticide products that kill, control, or repel pests.

  6. Types of Formulations LIQUID FORM SOLID FORM WITHOUT MIXING WITH MIXING WITH MIXING • Umpan pekat • Serbuk basah/ • wettable powder (WP) • Butiran larut/wettable • dispersible granule (WDG) • Serbuk larut/ • soluble powder (SP) Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) Emulsified/Pekat larut (E) Debu/Dust (D) Granul (G) Umpan/Bait (B) WITHOUT MIXING Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) Emulsified/Pekat larut (E) Ultralow-volume concentrate (ULV)

  7. LABEL & LABELLING • LABEL: information printed on or attached to the pesticide container • LABELLING: • label + all other information from the manufacturer about the product. • may include brochures, leaflets or other information that accompanies the pesticide product. • Pesticide labeling gives you the instructions on how to use the product safely and correctly. • Pesticide users are required by law to comply with all instructions and directions for use in pesticide labeling.

  8. COLOR CODE FOR PESTICIDE • 1a:BLACK (tengkorakbersilang):EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS • 1b:RED (tengkorakbersilang): HIGHLY HAZARDOUS • II: YELLOW: MODERATELY HAZARDOUS/POISONOUS • III: BLUE: SLIGHTLY HAZARDOUS • IV:NONE/WHITE:-

  10. Formulation 20EC. • i)You want to spray 12 ha field. Your sprayer applies 20 L per ha. How much spray mixture do you need? • ii) You need 200 ml 20EC formulation to prepare the amount of spray mixture in (i). What is the final a.i of the mixture?

  11. Formulation A: RM4/L (a.i.= 35%) • Formulation B: RM6/L (a.i. = 20%) • Suggested/disyorkan: 350 ml mixture with final a.i 3% to spray 1 ha. • 1)How much Formulation A and B needed to prepare the mixture
