  8. SUMMARY In the 1950s, in a small center of West Virginia, Coalwood , the fate of the in habitants was marked from their birth. The nearby coal mine was, inevitably, the workplace for almost all the inhabitants. Homer Hickam Jr. was one of them. Even though his ambitions were high, his economic possibilities would not allow him to continue his studies and, considering his minimal athletic skills, he would not even be able to take a scholarship for sports merit, as his brother Jim had done. One day, when passed the Soviet sputnik passed in October, he decided that his destiny would not be what his father John, superintendent to the mine, wanted for him. Indeed, he wanted his son to follow his footsteps. Along with a group of friends he decided to make a rocket and throw it into space. After several failed attempts, the last throwing succeeds and the rocket flies high in the sky. The boy's hopes are exalted, and his passion for astronautics and the encouragement of his chemistry teacher and physicist miss Riley lead him to win a scholarship. The film shows how a boy's dreams can be fulfilled, against all odds. Homer is a kid like so many, with ambitions that are not accepted by his father. But the boy's perseverance and passion for the astronaut will lead him to achieve the much-hoped succes

  9. COMMENT The movie we saw was very interesting and educational. In particular we liked 2 characters: Homer, the protagonist, who has been able to make his dream come true. The second character we liked was the teacher who believed in the boys, this figure should be the inspiration for adults who should believe more in young people, in their dreams and hopes. The film is suitable for a teenager audience that helps them reflect on the willpower and the beauty of dreaming .
