  2. By the end students will be able to :- • 1 – Name different common sports in both ancient and modern Egypt. • 2 – Speak about Egyptian famous teams and how this is important for Egyptians. • 3 – Watch a part of a soccer game between Al-Ahly and Zamalek.

  3. Sport is common in Egypt since the Pharaohs times Egypt, the land of many faces, offers many sports activities along with other things to do. The history of Egypt Sports is very ancient.   4. The history on ancient Egypt sports was comprised of a variety of games and sports. Quite surprisingly ancient Egypt games and sport are not that different from the games we practice and enjoy today. Murals and paintings dating back to the days of the ancient Egyptians indicate that the pharaoh and his people enjoyed such activities as wrestling , javelin throwing ,hockey……. http://egyptcairoholidays.com

  6. Sport in Modern Egypt 1 - Football The most played and watched sport in Egypt today is Football or Soccer. Al Ahly and Al Zamalek are the two Egyptian Soccer clubs famous all over the Arab World and in Africa. These two clubs are also the long time champions of Soccer regionally. Al Ahly that means 'national' in Arabic language is the most crowned club in Egypt. It was founded it in 1907 in Cairo. Al Zamalek is one of the Egypt's best sports clubs.   9. Ahmed Barada ( a world champion) Amr Shabana .He won the World Open in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009, and reached the World No. 1 ranking in 2006. Karim Darwish finished runner-up at the World Open, losing in the final to fellow Egyptian player Ramy Ashour Ramy Ashour He reached world No. 1 in January, 2010, after beating Nick Matthew in the final of the 2009

Raneem El Weleily is a professional squash player and currently is world No 5 . she became the world junior champion in Belgium in 2005 Omnia Abdel Kawy won the World Junior Championship in Egypt 2003 Nour El Tayeb, is a professional squash player. She reached a career-high world ranking of twelve in November, 2011

  12. 3 -Swimming 1 – Abdel Latif Abou Heif, known as the Crocodile of the Nile, enjoyed a tremendously successful and lengthy marathon swimming career from 1953 to 1972. In 2001, he was voted Marathon Swimmer of the Century He won races between 30K (18.6 miles) and 80K (49.7 miles) in water temperatures ranging between 12-28.8°C (54-84°F) In 1955 He broke the world record in swimming after crossing the English channel in 11 hours and 44 minutes He was World's Great Marathon Swimmer from 1953-1972; Longest Distance Swim - 60 miles of Lake Michigan in 34 hours, 45 minutes non stop http://openwaterpedia.com

  14. 2 -Dr. Rania Elwani ( the golden Nile fish )is an Olympic and former African Record holding swimmer from Egypt. She swam for Egypt at 1992, 1996 and 2000. In 2004 she became a member of the International Olympic Committee

  16. 4 -Handball The Egyptian national handball team is controlled by the Egyptian Handball Federation. The Team's performance in the '90s boosted the sport's popularity in the country and attracted media and official attention, especially after scoring a huge upset against former World champions Romania in the 1995 World Men's Handball Championship held in Iceland. Egypt also became the first non-European team to reach the World Championship semi-finals in the 2001 Men's tournament that was held in France.
