Adult: • Adult stage often appears as vastly different than larva stage. • Larva and adults may feed on completely different sources of food.
SIMPLE METAMORPHOSIS • EGG-NYMPH STAGES- ADULT
Nymph stages are similar in appearance to the adult stage except for SIZE (grasshoppers) • Lack wings • Several instars • Growth • Nymph stages generally feed on the same food sources as adults.
Adults • No more growth • Wings • Able to reproduce
Metamorphosis Timing • Some insect species complete their lifecycle several times each year (known as generations or broods). • Other insect species may require a number of years to complete one life cycle (17 year cicada).
