  1. Math StandardsGrade 2 • MEASUREMENT • M2M2. Students will tell time to the nearest five minutes and know relationships of time such as the number of seconds in a minute, minutes in an hour and hours in a day.

  2. Did you know….. THERE WERE ONCE NO CLOCKS???

  3. Keeping track of time is easy when you have a clock. • Did you know the electric clock wasn’t even invented until 1840? • For thousands of years before that, people used devices such as an hourglass filled with sand or a burning candle to tell time.

  4. Let’s Do Some Math!! • If it takes one hour for the sand in your hourglass to pass from one side to the next how many minutes have passed? How many seconds? • And how many times will you have to flip the hourglass to equal one day?

  5. Here are some clues… • 60 Seconds = 1 minute • 60 minutes = 1 hour • 24 Hours= 1 day

  6. Scrapbook Time • Write each problem in your scrapbook. • Write down your clues. • Show your work for each problem • Talk with your table about how you developed your answer
