  1. Gerald Ford -un-elected leader -appointed as Vice-President after Spiro Agnew resigned -25th Amendment had worked flawlessly

  2. Ford’s Administration -set out to heal the country’s wounds “long nightmare is behind them” -restore honesty to the Presidency -pardoned Nixon soon after taking office, but this brought great criticism from a cynical public

  3. Policies -inflationary problems -called for voluntary reduction of energy resources -WIN (Whip Inflation Now) -reduced money supply through high interest rates---caused recession -vetoed many spending bills b/c of inflation -Helsinki Accords were foreign policy accomplishment

  4. Outsider -former governor of Georgia Jimmy Carter -promised to bring integrity to the office -Carter’s personality and honesty won the election

  5. Jimmy Carter’s Agenda -Dept of Energy created -tries to lessen energy crisis -economy worsens and no programs are helping -changing economy -manufacturing decreasing, technology & service increasing -greater influence of minorities in Carter’s gov’t

  6. Human Rights Policy -promote human rights throughout the world -giving up the Panama Canal -breakdown of détente -renewal of the Cold War -later wins the Nobel Prize for his continued efforts to promote world peace since 1976
