Do you know who Richard M. Nixon is? Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States. He was President from 1969–1974. We are going to take a journey back in time to create a pictorial timeline of Richard Nixon’s presidency. Once we have the timeline completed, including events that occurred during President Nixon’s presidency, his accomplishments and pitfalls, we will take a vote, by private ballot, to see if you would have voted for President Nixon.
Task • Working in pairs or individually you will create a pictorial timeline of the major events that occurred during President Nixon’s presidency. You must have one picture for each year of his presidency. • You will provide a brief description of each event. • You will cast a vote for President Nixon citing the reasons why you have voted the way you did.
Process • Research the internet to identify a MAJOR event that occurred each year during President Nixon’s presidency. Use resources provided. • Create a timeline, by year, beginning from 1969 through 1974 (1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974) • Draw or print a picture that represents each event. Place the picture under the corresponding (correct) year. If the picture is printed glue the picture to your timeline. • Write a description of the event under the event picture. Must be a thorough explanation!!!!! • Review all of the events that occurred during President Nixon’s Presidency. • Take a piece of cut, folded construction paper and cast a ballot for President Nixon. Tell whether you would vote for him as president. Please be sure to describe the reason for your vote. • We will tally all the votes and discuss why or why not we would elect President Nixon after having all of the information we have now.

Conclusion • As a group count the ballots and reveal if President Nixon would have been elected if we voted as a class. • Place all of the comments on the board under the column marked “yes” or “no.” • Read all of the comments on the ballots. • Write three sentences stating whether your opinion has changed since reading the comments posted by your classmates.
