  2. General Information • Mental illness • Cause bodily symptoms, including pain • Real pain & other problems • preoccupied with health • Symptoms with no apparent cause • Not the result of substance abuse or any other mental illness

Somatization Disorder & Undifferentiated Somatoform Disorder • Pain, neurolic problems, gastrointestinal complaints, & sexual symptoms • Common w/ anxiety disorder • More common in women • Physical complaints more than 6 months • 50% suffer from other disorders • 4%-11% of pop. at some point in time
