Dawood (David) • Born in Bethlehem, Palestine • Youngest of thirteen brothers • Joined the army at the age of 16 as per his father's instruction • Taloot (Saul), the Israelite king attacks Jaloot (Goliath). • Taloot proclaims: “Whoever kills Jaloot I will let him marry my daughter and he will be my partner in the kingdom.” • Dawood confronts Jaloot and kills him.

Questions • Where was Dawood born and brought up? • To whom was he sent as a prophet? • To which prominent prophet does his lineage reach? • How many brothers did he have? • At what age did he join the army? • What was the reward declared by the king for the person who would kill Jaloot? • Who killed Jaloot and how?

  4. Dawood Becomes King • King Taloot fulfills his promise and Dawood becomes his son-in-law. • Allah blesses him with kingship. • Allah is the Protector and Guardian of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. (Al-Baqarah:257) • Life and death are in Allah's hand. • Ponder over Hadith of Ibn Abbas for removing fear.

Mazameer Dawood (The Psalms) • “And to Dawood we gave the Psalms” [4:163] • Prophet Dawood had a beautiful voice. • Prophet Muhammad SAW admires Abu Moosa al-Ash'ari for his beautiful recitation of The Holy Qur'an (al-Bukhari) • Using talents and beautiful voices in good and spiritual activities is blessed by Allah. • Using musical talents and other gifts in unlawful songs, etc. is discouraged. • Learning Tajweed (rules of Qur'an recitation) is very important.
