  1. What to study on test!!! • Darwin’s Theory of Evolution • Natural Selection, Artificial Selection, Adaptation • Evidence for Evolution • DNA, Homologues Structure, Fossils, etc • Macroevolution • Types • Natural Selection on Traits • Directional, Stabilizing, Disruptive selection • Speciation and types of Reproductive Isolation • Classification System

  2. Essay format • Essays are 10% of the overall test grade. • You will be required to answer 2 questions. One I choose the under you get to choose. • Essays must be written in at least 3 to 5 complete sentences. To receive full credit, every aspect of the question must be covered and examples must be given.

  3. Example (not a real essay question) Q: Compare enzyme activity to a lock and key. A: In a comparison of the activity of enzymes to a lock and key, the lock symbolizes the active site of the enzyme and the key symbolizes the substrate. A specific key can fit into only a specific lock; so, too, does a specific substrate fit into the active site of a specific enzyme. Without a perfect match, the reaction cannot occur. Likewise, without the right key, the lock cannot open.

  4. # 1 Complete sentences • Suppose that selective breeding has produced a population of very similar chickens. Would that population survive if it were released into the world? Explain. • Yes or No • What determines whether a species will survive? • Why will are why won’t the species survive. • If won’t, what will happen to the species.

  5. # 2 Complete sentences • Explain Darwin’s theory of natural selection, and give evidence to support it. • define natural selection, • give an example that has evolved because of natural selection and explain how

  6. # 3 Complete sentences • What direct evidence is available to support the theory of evolution? • List and describe at least three different evidences for evolution

  7. # 4 Complete sentences • How is the idea of common descent supported by examples of homologous structures? • What is common descent? • What is a homologous structure? • Give examples of homologous structures.
