NACD Goals • Represent districts as their national voice on conservation issues. • Provide useful information to conservation districts and their state associations. • Build partnerships with federal and state agencies and other organizations in order to carry out district priorities and programs. • Analyze programs and policy issues that have an impact on local districts. • Offer needed and cost-effective services to districts.

  4. NACD… • Represents America’s 3,000 conservation districts • Serves as a voice for districts on Capitol Hill • Provides information, tools and training to districts • Builds partnerships and coalitions

  5. NACD Continued • Non-Profit Organization; Formed in 1946. • Motto • “Conservation, Development, Self-Government” • Represents SWCDs by • Developing National Conservation Policies • Influencing lawmakers • Building partnerships

  6. NACD Duties • Establish & Maintain Working Relationships • Government Agencies • Leaders in Various Sectors (Agriculture, Conservation, Education, Industry, Etc.) • District Publicity. • Provide various services.

NACD Elected Officers • Competencies • Proven leadership experience and vision • Understanding of budget and financial management functions and an appreciation for non-profit and grant accounting processes • Familiarity and experience with management and operations of associations • Be an active district official from a quota paying district • Be a champion of conservation district policies and principles • An understanding and the ability to effectively advance the association’s vision, mission and strategic objectives • Ability to inspire action • Knowledge of and working experience with national level conservation issues and leaders • Experience with the legislative process • Strong and effective interpersonal and communications skills • Consensus building skills and willingness to support decisions of the Board • Understanding and respect for the role and responsibility of a professional staff • Ability to travel and be away from home as much as 100 days per year
